Technical Related Activities

Jenson started his career in IT in June 1997 as a Research Assistant to Prof Ooi Beng Chin (Dean, School of Computing, NUS). His main duties were to make sure that the database research group IT needs were well taken care of. During this period, he managed the entire IT infrastructure (both servers and development environments) within the lab for a group of around 5 researchers. He took the opportunity to complete his Master of Science during this period. His technical competency was best demonstrated where he single-handedly written up a Storage Manager, a.k.a. StorM in Java. This storage manager handled all low-level operations at database level and featured an innovative dynamic buffer management scheme that he was responsible in designing. His research findings on his buffer management scheme were published in a top-tier database journal (VLDB journal) and a second upper-tier conference (CIKM). He completed his Master of Science by Research in 2000.

In 2003, Jenson was selected by Sun Microsystems and Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore to take part in the prestigious Java Black Belt programme. This programme identified and trained a selected group of élite Java candidates across various industries in Singapore through a rigorous 8 months industry attachment programme. Jenson cleared the programme with flying colours. Besides being certified as a Sun Certified Java Programmer, Java Developer and Java Enterprise Architect (mandated by the programme), Jenson made full use of his stay in Sun Microsystems headquarter in Menlo Park, USA by continuously upgrading his skillset though certifications.
